STAY HOME
My goal was to create a simple platforming prototype that showcased my sardonic sense of humor while also relating some of the anxieties I faced in my own early college days.
I served as the sole designer on this project while my wife handled all of the concept artwork using Procreate.
The game itself was created in the Construct engine using its built-in visual scripting language.
GAMEPLAY
The player moves through a side-scrolling party scene where they must avoid bumping into annoying guests or risk losing sanity (health) as they attempt to find an exit. Sanity can be recovered by picking up beer pickups scattered around the level. The exit for the level is blocked by a boss battle that consists of avoiding a drunk party goer with a traffic cone on their head as they charge at the player like an angry rhinoceros.

ART
Initial concept drawings were done by my wife while I created all the in-game assets as well as handled all the animation.
The background was created first and contains a gradient on the floor that would end up providing elements of the overall color pallet.
Prop elements were added next. These utilized a bright green color to contrast with the red and brown elements of the background.
Foreground details (other party goers) added depth and detail to the scene by suggesting a bigger world outside of the limited player view.
DESIGN
After designing the initial proof of concept prototype in Construct, I extended the vision of the project through design documents. Future work on Stay Home will be focused on migrating the project to Unity and integrating the material in these design documents.
